DIFFERENT SPECIALTY OF NURSING CAREERS!

Unread post by Kunle Emmanuel »

Public Health Nurses
While most nurses care for one patient at a time, public health nurses care for the entire populations. By working with whole communities, public health nurses are able to educate people about health issues, improve community health and safety and increase access to care.

Public health nurses among other duties do the following:
1) Monitor health trends and identify health risk factors unique to specific communities
2) Set local priorities for health-related interventions to provide the greatest benefit to the most people
3) Advocate with local, state and federal authorities to improve access to health services for under-served communities
4) Design and implement health education campaigns and disease prevention activities, such as immunization and screenings
5) Tell people about locally available health care programs and services to improve access to care
6) Educate and provide direct health care services to vulnerable and at-risk populations
7) Public health nurses believe a person's health is affected by many factors, including genetic makeup, lifestyle and environment. Instead of waiting for patients to come to the hospital with an illness, they go into communities to try and help people improve their health and prevent disease.
8) For people who don't have access to care, public health nurses may also provide direct health care services, including preventive care, screening services and health education.
9) Health education is a primary focus of public health nurses. Drawing on their training as registered nurses, public health nurses give people reliable, useful information about how to protect their health.
10) In presentations at schools, community groups, senior centers and other local groups, public health nurses explain proper nutrition, demonstrate effective safety practices, promote early detection of common diseases, tell people how to care for disabled or ill family members and inform people about other important health issues.
11) Their goal is to make health information easy to understand, so people can take greater control over their well being.
12) In low-income and rural communities, public health nurses also provide critical health care services. They immunise schoolchildren, provide pre-natal and well-baby care and teach the elderly how to stay safe and healthy at home. They are also trained to recognise and respond to potential health crises.

From me I say thank you Public Health Nurses like myself!

Nurse Educators
Nurse educators are registered nurses with advanced education who are also teachers. Most work as nurses for a period of time before dedicating their careers (part-time or full-time) to educating future nurses.
Nurse educators serve as faculty members in nursing schools and teaching hospitals, sharing their knowledge and skills to prepare the next generation of nurses for effective practice. They develop lesson plans, teach courses, evaluate educational programs, oversee students’ clinical practice and serve as role models for their students. They may teach general courses or focus on areas of specialisation, such as geriatric nursing, paediatric nursing or nursing informatics.

Most nurse educators have extensive clinical experience, and many continue caring for patients after becoming educators. Even if they no longer practice, nurse educators must stay current with new nursing methods and technologies, which keeps them on the leading edge of clinical practice.

With experience, nurse educators may advance to administrative roles, such as managing nurse education programs, writing or reviewing textbooks and developing continuing education programs for working nurses. Thank you all Nurse Educators!

A variety of exciting nursing positions and specialties are available in today’s dynamic healthcare industry. RN to BSN online programs help prepare nurses to take on these expanded roles, where acute and coordinated care, advanced theory, critical thinking, and leadership skills are utilized each day. Among the career possibilities for highly skilled nurses are:

Chief Nursing Officer - Chief nursing officers (CNO) are responsible for facilitating the design and delivery of patient care, advancing the quality of relationships between staff and colleagues, and maintaining networks of care providers.

Nurse Anesthetist - Nurse anesthetists are RNs who have obtained advanced education and training, and are certified to administer anesthesia to patients during surgery, either independently or under the direction of an anesthesiologist. They evaluate patients during pre- and post-op examinations and plan the safest method of anesthesia for each patient.

Critical Care Nurse - Critical care nurses work with acutely ill patients in intensive care units, cardiac units and neonatal and pediatric intensive care units, where complex diagnoses, high-intensity treatments and continual supervision are required.

Clinical Nurse Manager - Clinical nurse managers supervise nurses in a particular unit or area. They oversee budgets, patient records and employee performance and collaborate with other healthcare professionals to coordinate the delivery of quality patient care.

Labor and Delivery Nurse - Labor and delivery (LD) nurses care for women who are delivering babies. They monitor the mother and baby before and during the birth, and care for the newborn immediately after. LD nurses assist with delivery and treating any complications that arise, and provide support and education for new mothers and their families.

Patient Educator - Patient educators work with patients and their families, helping them make informed decisions about their health and treatment. They also focus on preventative care by teaching patients positive health behaviors and skills needed to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Today’s registered nurses are relied upon for their critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, and are expected to possess a much broader base of knowledge, including humanities, social sciences, and data analysis. They continue to be in high demand across the country, and increasingly, employers are seeking those with the advanced skills and clinical knowledge that can be obtained through BSN programs.
