NMCN Minimum Requirements To Become A Nurse Educator In Nigeria
The Board of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria at its Emergency Meeting held in February, 2022 has approved Bachelor of Nursing Science degree (BNSc) with Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) or Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) or Masters in Education (M.Ed.) as the minimum requirements for teaching in nursing training institutions in Nigeria.
The above decision of the Board is in line with the education reform of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria which reiterates the importance of Nurses with higher qualifications to teach in the Colleges of Nursing Sciences for the award of National and Higher National Diploma (ND/HND) Certificates.
In view of the above, Council will no longer accept diploma qualification without Bachelor of Nursing Science for registration as an Educator.
