A general Nurse practitioner does all these and others in a shift, while Nurse Specialists carry out a whole lot more in other specialised cares that are peculiar to their job.
These include:
Anaesthetic Nursing
Neonatal Nursing
Paediatric Nursing
Ophthalmic Nursing
Theatre Nursing
Intensive care Nursing
Public Health Nursing
Obstetric and Gynecology Nursing
Clinic Service Provider
School Nursing
Midwifery
Forensic Nursing
Nurse Informatics
Nurse Educators
Ear, Nose, and Throat Nursing
Endocrine Nursing
Oncology Nursing
Psychiatric Nursing
Orthopaedic Nursing
Geriatric Nursing
---- and so many more......!
Nursing is different from Medicine, no other professional can do what Nurses do for their patients.
The Nurse is exposed to all forms of health hazards because of the nature of her job.
The Nurse stays with the patients/clients more than any other professional in the health care industry.
A Nurse is indeed the pivot on which health care delivery revolves.
Little wonder why civilized countries of the world cherish their Nurses and believe in them as the most trusted professional, continuously for the past decades....!
The problem with Nigerians is that they confuse the roles of the Nurse with that of a Doctor and when they see a Nurse not doing the work of a Doctor, they assume she is not knowledgeable.
We are different!
The execution of our job involves the use of division of labour with specialisation. We complement one another.
We act as checks and balances as we render our care. e.g. (A doctor certifies a patient dead, filled the death certificate, a nurse issues it to the next of kin and collect all the necessary information).
This will prevent any anomaly from the two professionals involved.
Why would any one think a Nurse does not deserve respect and good pay?
Nurses actually nurture human from birth till death!
If you think of who faces more hazard at work place in a health setting, IT IS STILL THE NURSE!
YES! THE NURSE IS AT RISK!
WE DESERVE A GOOD HAZARD ALLOWANCE, AND NOT MERE N5000!
Incidentally, when the overpampered Medical Doctors choose to abandon their duties a.k.a. strikes......the neglected Nurses keep the hospitals going; yet the Government of the day pretends not to know.....!
Sad...!
Proudly a Nurse....!
Nurses indeed, do call the shots!
