Nigerian Private Nurses Salary Survey

Unread post by Kunle Emmanuel »

Salary is an important component for the vast majority of people who must work for a living. Salary surveys can empower nurses because they unearth valuable information. As much as we may love the work that we do, most of us would not continue to show up to work each day if our employers suddenly declared, “You will no longer receive a pay check every month. Instead, we will repay you with compassion, compliments, gratitude and appreciation for a job well done.”

To be perfectly frank, compassion does not pay the rent, gratitude will not fill the fridge with food, and caring will not prevent the PHCN from being disconnected for lack of timely payment. The truth is that we all need appropriate compensation for the vital services that we render, so I wonder about the occasional person who states, “I love nursing so much that I’d do it for free!” I challenge these people to resign from their paying jobs and volunteer their nursing services for free for the remainder of their working years. Only the well-off can pull it off for an extended time.

With that having been said, informal salary surveys can be worth their weight in gold. This salary survey response will benefits nurses particularly in private hospitals because it gleans valuable information:

It makes us more aware of the average rates of pay for each state in the country.

It enables us to be reasonable when pursuing a fair pay rate from a potential employer.

It takes other factors into account, such as geographic variances and differences in specialties.

It regards the fact that salaries can be a tricky topic – some employees would never even dream of disclosing their pay to colleagues, and many organizations have policies in place that prohibit open discussion of wages. In other words, salary can be a very touchy subject.

If you wish to participate in the informal salary survey for 2015, please list the information in the following order:
  • 1. Your State
    2. Monthly Pay
    3. In which area / specialty do you work? DO NOT MENTION HOSPITAL NAME/FACILITY
    4. What type of degree and/or certification do you have?
    7. How many years of experience do you have?
    8. Are you full-time, part-time?
    9. What shift do you work?

And if you do not want to provide any salary information, that’s perfectly fine, too. Thanks!

47% of Abuja residents earn below N30,000 monthly – Survey 2012

The Minister of State, Federal Capital Territory, Ms Olajumoke Akinjide said at the 8th National Conference on Investment, “The FCT Administration recently carried out a demographic household survey to generate basic data and information for the purpose of planning and development of the FCT.

We were able to ascertain that 72.11 per cent of the households earn below N100,000 per month and that the majority of the workers fall within the low income group.

“About 46.9 per cent earn below N30,000 per month; 19.77 per cent earn between N30,000 and N50,000 per month; while about 5.44 per cent earn between N50,000 and N100,000 per month. This means that only about 28 per cent earn above N100,000 per month in the FCT.” http://www.punchng.com/business/busines ... ly-survey/

Many nurses do not know that we can help one another when we know the salary ranges different locations through survey. I have put up many survey to assist and improve what we collect from private hospitals but was surprise not to see any response. How Much should nurses collect as their salary for RN & RM, and how much BNsc collect as their salary?

RN Salary Range
According to the latest data from the BLS, registered nurses earned an average salary of $66,640 in 2014 USA. Reported salaries ranged from $45,880 for those in the lowest 10% to more than $98,880 in the highest 10% of earners.

Because salary potential may vary depending on location, education and experience, prospective students are encouraged to conduct independent research to determine actual earning potential.

Every nurse is interested in knowing how their salary compares to that of others. The new graduated nurse who is searching for that first job wants to know where the highest paying jobs are.

As with any job, salaries for nurses vary greatly from state to state and even city to city within the same state.
