We 21st century nurses cant afford to retire and has never made enough money.

You can imagine getting screamed at by a patient and their relatives, washing off vomitus and blood spill from your scrubs, and working two double shifts back-to-back with a day off to rest as a nurse and then you retire without making enough money.

Who does that?

Most nurses are expected to work 12+ hour nursing shifts these days, they are on their feet constantly and may have to sacrifice time with friends or family over the holidays to be at work. Just imagine during the pandemic lockdown, some Nurses without private cars, had to walk long distance, suffered police intimidation and harassment, just to render service.

Do you know some older nurses ,retired and resulted to work in a private facility as nurse Superintendent, popularly called matron at such age and getting paid relatively lower than what they earned while in active service with their wealth of experience? Ummmm! If they love nursing that much, what stopped them from planning to own a maternity/nursing clinic before retirement? No! Not pleasant but let's not deviate further.

While most us of nurses will agree that we didn’t enter the healthcare profession for the money, BUT WE WANT THE MONEY AFTER ALL, YES! it helps to maintain a balance between work and life, when you’re being paid fairly and compensated for all you put up with on the job .

But nevertheless, if that isn't achievable, we still work anyways, but with a twist this time around & adding side gig so we don't retire broke.

Many nurses are suffering from "caregiver fatigue" or compassion fatigue. You can tell ,when you start feeling overworked and underpaid, usually when you get to this point, you’re not able to give your best to patients ,you get easily irritated, you find yourself disappointing yourself, because you are unable to give that awesome level of service you expect from yourself.

At this point, you are no longer excited about your job.

• You resume late for your shift
• You are always browsing the internet for healthcare/ nursing jobs ,that you can fit in though employed.
• You dream about travelling to developed countries to spend the rest of your life and serve as a nurse.

But in all of these, you still hold the power to decide, its all in your court.

You don’t have to keep working in a place you’re not fond of,its okay to take your talent where it will be appreciated.

Many people endure toxic workplaces because they fear losing their only source of income.

We know nursing can be a time-consuming job, but you might have a few extra hours in the week that you’d like to fill with supplemental income and if you do , now is the time to start.

The longer you wait, the more money you are losing.
