Sign Petitioning of NMCN: Move SON to Ministry of Education

WORK IN LINE WITH INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS TO MOVE SCH OF NURSING FROM THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH TO MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND WORK WITH THE NATIONAL UNIVERSITIES COMMISSION(NUC) TO PROVIDE CURRICULUM FOR BRIDGING PROGRAMMES FOR REGISTERED NURSES TO EARN BNsc.
This is Important for Nurses in Nigeria as over 70% of Nurses are graduates and certificate holders in the 36 months intensive hospital based Nursing training programme. The holders of this certificate are mostly well grounded in practicals, working in the clinical areas and a bridge programme to obtain a degree in Nursing will go a long way in enhancing their knowledge and practical skills in the discharge of their duties to meet up with current trends with best international practices and standards.
Nursing is being relegated in the health care settings in Nigeria because other health care workers see Nurses as being less Educated than they are(80% of Nurses working in hospitals are Graduates of Schools of Nursing with/without post basic Specialty Nursing Certificates["diploma"]) and in most cases, Nurses are not being involved in decision making despite the fact that Nurses have the highest Population in these settings and are at the front line of quality health care service Delivery.
We got this!, ...Yes, We can achieve this...We are the FUTURE OR NURSING IN NIGERIA and TOGETHER,WE CAN!!!!!!!!!
Sign this petition and refer others to do so till it gets maximum coverage and gets to the Authorities.

Olufemi Iseyemi Folakemi:
Let us do a little exercise to reflect what is going on in our mind concerning our profession. If you support movement of Schools of Nursing to Ministry of Education which means ministry of health will only supervise practicals as it is in medicine, sign the petition now

Olufemi Iseyemi Folakemi : We are not against NMC but rather we want them to work with ministry of education, to give a new face lift to nursing in Nigeria. We are not in Europe, the style we are using now is bringing so much pain to nurses. We need a change, NMC remains one and only body that can issue us professional certificate but let schools of nursing be under education so that we can operate like other professionals in the hospital environment environment. We need a review of this present system. The ministry of education will offer us educational certificate as it is in physiotherapy, medicine etc. This is our plea. This is our pain. This cry is not from graduate nurses but from majority of nurses who can project into the future
Olufemi Iseyemi Folakemi
Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria remains the only body that can licence any one to practice nursing in Nigeria. They have maintained their integrity all through, from inception till now. We have no doubt about the conduct of nursing exam and issuance of licence. It has remained the most credible examination and licensing body in Nigeria. But The Nigerian community needs more than this, in the sense that without the academic certificate we cannot be placed where we belong or where we supposed to be. From no2 in the health care family to no number as it is now.
They have even started rating us with dental therapist now baptised 'dental nurses' by CMDs, who also placed them on same entry point with nurses. Even a lay person will know that a nurse that studies all part of the body and specific things about nature should not be rated at same level with someone whose knowledge is centred on a minute part of the body. Dental care. Administrative power is in their hands and that they are using to subdue nurses and Nursing but we have the power of will to decide how we want this profession to be. It is our profession, our life, our passion, hence we must Savage it. We want nurses and Nursing to be rightly placed.
Let us do it the Nigerian way, we need the input of ministry of education in our training now!

PROFESSOR SAMSON OMOTOSHO shared his reasons for signing this petition ll the way from the USA:
I was once a nurse educator in Nigeria and so privileged to know that the Nigerian nursing education system has come a long way but yet has ways to go. The nursing and midwifery council, the body that sets and maintains nursing education standards, has a lot yet to review, revise, and update to bring those standards to the highest available in the world today. Nigerian educators in the diaspora are willing, able and ready if they ask.

Nursing is a job in which a person becomes most responsible as he/she have to look after patients of all type. Today many people desire to perform this job and serve humanity. But still there are many people out there not interested in the job. So, professionals from homework help websites have decided to provide some nursing tips for such people.

Nursing in other parts of the world can be taken in 4 years. This is a bachelor program approved by the ministry of education and must follow the standard curriculum and programs. For a nurse to be called a nurse, they must take a licensure examination which will test their knowledge on the area. This is a critical and sensitive profession, therefore, I believe that getting a nurse license must have strict compliance. For nurses who are practicing in the field without the nursing licensure must be given an opportunity to prove their credibility. They can take an exam and get their license if they pass the exam.
