Today, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Health, Dr. Olusegun Ogboye received in audience the Executives and members of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives and the Registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria who paid courtesy visit to the Ministry of Health ahead of the Maiden National Nursing Summit which has been Scheduled to hold between Tuesday 27th and Friday 30th of September 2022, at Dover Hotel, Ikeja.
In his remarks, the Registrar, Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Dr. Faruk Abubakar commended the Lagos State Government for demonstrating excellence in health care delivery despite the menace of COVID-19 adding that the state is making a significant contribution towards the development of a qualitative health care delivery in the Nigeria
Dr. Abubakar who also applauded the efforts of nurses in the provision of a qualitative health care service in the state commended the State Government for providing numerous employment opportunities and conducive working environment for nurses in the state.
While urging the State Government to employ nurses especially graduate nurses, Abubakar posit that there are adequate numbers of competent nurses who are willing to provide professional health care services to the state.
Responding, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr Olusegun Ogboye who welcomed the delegates, assured that the Lagos State Government is committed to the provision of sustainable health care delivery stressing that priority has been accorded human capital development in provision of qualitative healthcare service delivery.
"Regarding employment opportunities, it is now automatic to replace staff as they exit. We quite understand that without staff, our hospitals are just buildings and it is the staff that make the difference" He said.
He congratulated the nurses for hosting the maiden edition of the National Nursing Summit and wished them a very successful deliberation and outcome that will be of benefit to Lagos and Nigeria at large.
Also at the meeting were : President, National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Mr. Michael Nnachi; South West Zonal Officer, Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Akinwunmi Abiodun; Director Nursing Services, Ministry of Health, Mrs Dorcas Shonibare; Director Nursing Services, Health Services Commission, Mrs Cole Adebukola; Director Nursing Services, LASUTH Mrs Aina Adegbola; State Epideiomologist, Dr. Ismail Abdulsalam amongst others.
