NMCN 2017 Examiners’ Workshop: Dr Asibong Assures Council More Schools to be Accredited; State Government to Partner Nigerian Association of Dermatologists

The 2017 Examiner’s Workshop of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) has commenced in Calabar, the Cross River State capital. The 3-day event is geared towards improving skills of examiners to effectively assess and produce competent Nurse/Midwife practitioners. The event had in attendance the State Health team led by the Honorable Commissioner for Health, Dr Inyang Asibong, the Commissioner for Education, Honorable Godwin Etta, coincidentally is a Nurse, the Calabar Royal Fathers, Nursing Directors across the country, cerebral professionals and nursing bigwigs amongst others.

In her welcome address, the acting Director of Nursing Services in the Cross River State Ministry of Health Dr Pauline Obute, welcomed all the delegates who cut across different spheres of the medical business and urged them to not to exceed their stress threshold as there’s a lot to be experienced in the State.

Declaring the workshop open the Honorable Commissioner for Health, Dr Inyang Asibong, who represented His Excellency, Sen Prof Ben Ayade, welcomed the NMCN team and delegates to Cross River State for the first time since it’s creation in 1979. She highlighted the achievements of the profession in the State and the efforts of the government in ensuring the creation of a conducive nursing environment. Amongst others the employment of school of Nursing and Midwifery tutors, the accreditation of some Schools of Nursing and Midwifery in the State and plans to accredit three more, and employment of graduate Nurses into the health workforce.

She declared the workshop open on behalf of His Excellency, Sen Prof Ben Ayade, and the good people of State whilst wishing them a successful deliberation and peaceful resolutions. She also urged them to enjoy the Cross River experience and explore the tourism opportunities available.

In her goodwill message, Director General of Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Betta Edu said Nurses formed an integral part of primary health in the state and as such they have a very big role to play in the revitalization of healthcare in the State.

Cross River State is steadily growing in popularity amongst professional bodies and health associations as it has played host to lots of these professional bodies who cut across different sectors of the economy especially the health sector.

Very recently the city hosted the 55th Scientific conference and Annual delegate meeting of the Nigeria Association of Dermatologist, and which the Honorable Commissioner for Health was the guest honor and declared open the conference.

The event which was graced with seasoned Dermatologists and professionals in the medical industry witnessed the birth of a partnership with the Cross River State Government on ways of expanding Dermatology frontiers in the State through
