It’s Nurses Week 2019!

National Nurses Week 2019 celebration commence today.

This is the week that was created to recognize those who are part of the most trusting and respected profession - NURSING.

What will your nursing week bring?

National Nurses Week 2019 - Seven Days of promotion of what we do as nurses and appreciation!

Nurses week…...what does that bring to mind for you? Are you one of the lucky nurses that has an employer/non-nurse co-workers who express their appreciation to you and other nurses you work with by showering you with praise and gifts? Or are you like the majority of nurses for whom this week holds no special meaning except in their mind?

As nurses, even we tend to forget the great work we do. We think “it’s just part of the job”….taking care of people, using our skills and knowledge to even save lives.

Naija Nurses Forum admins wants all of us to know how much we appreciate you and what you do in your job as part of the most respected and trusted profession.

Once again, we wish us all a happy week-long celebration of National Nurses Week.

Every year, from May 6-12, it’s time to celebrate the best people on the planet — nurses, of course! And I’m not just saying that, nurses are consistently rated as the most honest and ethical of all professions, according to Gallup’s annual poll.

As the often unsung and underappreciated heroes of healthcare, nurses deserve so much more than a mere week of love.

In honor of the upcoming celebration, here are a few fun facts about the history of Nurses Week:

National Nurses Week was first celebrated in 1954 from October 11-16, in observance of the 100th anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s mission to Crimea.

In 1955, Congress introduced a bill to create a “National Nurse Week,” but the bill was stalled.

President Nixon was the first to proclaim a “National Nurse Week” in 1974.
In 1993, the American Nurses Association Board of Directors voted to make it official, designating May 6-12 as the permanent dates for observing National Nurses Week from 1994 on.

The annual Nurses Week celebration culminates on Friday, May 12th, which is International Nurses Day and the birthday of iconic RN Florence Nightingale.
That was then, this is now. And now, we party in honor of nurses everywhere!

Suggestions on how to celebrate National Nurses Week include:

  • Submitting an article to the local press about this event and the important role nurses have in our society.

Purchasing merchandise such as key rings, t-shirts, buttons, mugs which promote National Nurses Week.

Offer free blood pressure and/or cholesterol screening in your community.

Organize a sponsored activity such as a walk or run with the proceeds going to a local charity.

Invite a local politician to shadow a nurse for a day and ask the local press to cover the event.

HAPPY NURSES WEEK
Nurses are Angels on earth. We are called to serve humanity. There is no disputing the fact that Nurses are the heartbeats of the health care industry.
Our eyes have seen pains and happiness. We have a mind that's always assessing,a feet that has walked a thousand miles for our patients.

Being a Nurse goes beyond just administering drugs; It can be highly demanding and frustrating.

There are days when you feel like quitting, but what keep us going is the privilege to serve and save lives.
Nurses are there from when you take your first breath, till you breathe your last.

Who else sacrifices his/her time to patiently encourage you back to recovery?
Who else holds urine in their bladder to ensure your drugs are administered in time?
Nurses are neither wicked nor heartless,we are not gossips either.
Thanks to all Nurses on their feet day and night to ensure quality nursing care are rendered.

Appreciate these Angels in uniform. You never know what they are equally passing through.

Happy Nurses week to all the wonderful, committed and hardworking Nurses out there. Let's continue to uphold standard nursing practices as we strive towards building this noble profession.

I'm proud to be a Nurse....Are you?

May 6th through May 12th is “National Nurses Week” – a time to honor those who compassionately care for the sick and advance the art and science of medicine in our society. Nothing is more personal than health care - including the decision to honor a nurse on “National Nurses Week” by supporting the places where he or she saves lives every day.

I walk through those doors with pride,
Whose life will I save tonight?
Someone is waiting for me,
Someone is alive today because of my duty.

Sometimes we cry cause we can't save them all,
God sometimes won't let us interfere when he calls.
A baby's first breath when he looks at me,
The joy of my first delivery.
The tear I wipe away with my own hands,

The life ending of a gentle old man.
The night seems so dark and the morning so bright,
Being a nurse you see life in a different light.
Who will I save tonight?
Who will hold my hand during their last breath with no fright?
Who will enter this world on my shift?

How many mothers will greet their babies with a kiss?
I don't know who these special people are;
But I will meet them with every call
I will hold them tight and help the pain
I will hold them up when they feel faint.
I will be strong when I am needed

That is my job, I am a Nurse..
That is my duty !

Happy Nurses Week dear Colleagues!

National Nursing Week is May 6-12. This is a time to celebrate Registered Nurses and all nursing providers.

As an RN, we do amazing things every day. Really, truly, amazing. We save lives. Prevent complications. Treat illness. Educate. Promote health.

We are an advocate for countless patients. We are a shoulder to cry on. The value we bring to patients, communities, and families is immeasurable.

Wishing all Nigerian Nurses and abroad happy nurses week.
