Nursing And Midwifery Council Of Nigeria Accreditation Team To Visit Benue

Unread post by Kunle Emmanuel »

All is now set for the accreditation team from the Nursing and Midwifery Council to visit Benue. The team is expected to arrive the state on Sunday 2nd October 2016 for a 5-day visit to assess the readiness of the institutions to admit and train new students.

While in the state, the team will inspect facilities at School Nursing and Midwifery Makurdi, Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi and the School of Nursing, Mkar-Gboko. The visit to the BSU Teaching Hospital Makurdi is to ascertain its viability for Clinical of student nurses and midwives from SON/M, Makurdi.

It will be recalled that the schools lost their accreditation in January 2013 when the report of the accreditation visit of 2012 was published. At present, there is no single student at the School of Nursing, Makurdi as the last set of students graduated in May 2016 with the best results ever in the history of the school, a success which has been attributed to the conducive learning environment provided by the present administration under Governor Samuel Ortom. Meanwhile, the School of Midwifery shall be graduating her last set students who are already preparing for the council’s examination in March 2017.

Governor Samuel Ortom promised during the campaigns to ensure the reaccreditation of the institutions and has since transformed it to standard. Already, all obligations for the visit has been settled by the state government while the staff led by the principal, Mrs Pauline Atser are working tirelessly to meet up with the scheduled date. Similarly at School of Nursing and Midwifery, Mkar-Gboko, the principal Mrs F. T. Fiase, an old student of school set 1981 is performing wonders towards the visit.
