The federal government has intervened and stopped the members of the Midwives Service Scheme (MSS) from commencing on a strike action to protest the non- payment of their eight months salaries.

The MSS who had planned to conduct a peaceful demonstration shelved the action after a meeting between the Honourable Minister of State for Health Engr. Fidelis Nwankwo, and the leadership of the Midwives Service Scheme, led by Mrs. Grace Shamond.

The minister of state for health, Engr Fidelis Nwankwo at the meeting, pledged that their allowances will be paid upon budgetary release within May, 2015.

In a communiqué signed by the permanent secretary of the ministry of health, Linus Awute and other parties it pointed out that the meeting was prompted by the intention of the Midwives to embark on a peaceful demonstration on Monday 27th April, 2015 to demand for the payment of their monthly allowance from the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) which is outstanding for a period of eight months due to inadequate budgetary provision, late passage and non-release.
