National President of the National Association of Nurses and Midwives, Mr. AbdulRafiu Adeniji, has said the recent threat by the government declaring a “No work, no pay” policy was a strategy that would not intimidate the striking health workers.
He said the directive by the Federal Government would not cow members of the Joint Health Sector Unions to return to work.
Adeniji said this at a press briefing in Calabar, Cross River State, after the national executive council meeting of the association.
He also ordered members to fully withdraw their services from public hospitals in total compliance with the ongoing strike embarked on by the JOHESU.
He added that nurses and midwives were ready for a long battle with the government over the contentious issues until their demands were met.
Adeniji said the latest resolution to suspend skeletal services was informed by the refusal of key officers in the Federal Ministry of Health to attend a scheduled meeting with JOHESU on December 15.
He called on the Federal Government to urgently give health facilities some facelift by installing basic infrastructure in clinics and hospitals.
