Pregnant ‘Nurse’ jailed for certificate forgery

Unread post by Queenet »

An Abuja Chief Magistrate Court last Monday convicted and sentenced a 33-year-old housewife to five months imprisonment for forging a practicing license of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria and other documents to secure job in a hospital.

Mrs Marie Ophushaire of Karu, Abuja was charged with impersonation and forgery, which are offences contrary to Sections 132 and 364 of the Penal Code.

Prosecutor Philips Akogwu told the court that on March 31, one Asemota Simon of Diff Hospital, Abuja, reported to the police that during a staff certificate verification exercise carried out by management of the hospital recently, it was discovered that the accused has been working with fake certificates.

He said that the accused was using a photostat certificate bearing the name Marie Igbubor and could not produce the original when it was demanded for by the hospital’s management, adding that the owner of the said certificate was Ogaga Evwierhuhoha.

“It was discovered that you Marie forged a practicing licence of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria and used one belonging to their distinguished members,” the prosecutor said.

He said during police investigation, the accused confessed to have impersonated and also forged the nursing license.

When the charges were read to the accused, she pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency.

Chief Magistrate Azubuike Okeagu sentenced her to five months imprisonment or to pay N10,000 as fine.
