BNSc without RN is Invalid - Nursing Council

Unread post by Kunle Emmanuel »

In response to queries by students of nursing in various departments of nursing in universities across nigeria whom had completed their degree programs in nursing and have exhausted the limits (3) of rewriting the council board exams, Jude Chiedu a nursingworld nigeria correspondent sent in this circular dated April 8 2011 and signed by the then secretary general/registrar of the council. Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria Circular on Employment of Graduate Nurses.

The board of the Nursing and Midwifery council of nigeria has directed that you be notified of the need to ensure that all staff employed for professional nursing positions in your establishments who are holders of a Bachelor of Nursing science (BNSc) Degree from approved departments of Nursing MUST ALSO POSSESS A MINIMUM OF A REGISTERED NURSE CERTIFICATE and be registered and licensed by the nursing and midwifery council of Nigeria before they can be employed to practice Nursing in any ramification in Nigeria.

Please note that any person that is not duly registered and licensed by the council is not LEGALLY authorized to practice Nursing in nigeria and is liable to prosecution.

Kindly ensure that original certificates of all professional and academic qualifications are sighted during recruitment and promotion exercises and if in doubt, the council will be
willing to verify such certification/ registration at the candidates expense.

Please bring the content of this circular to the attention of other employers of labour in your area of jurisdiction and all those that are concerned.

Thanks for your co-operation.

The circular was copied to the following: Chairman federal public service commission, state public service commission, L.G.S Commission, commissioners of health, CMDs and MDs of teaching, specialist and state hopsitals and directors of nursing services.
