Size and shape of breast does not determine milk production

Real Patient Discussion

Mrs B. Please I'm worried about how I'm going to breastfeed. My Breasts are tooooooooo small.

Hi ma. You have nothing to be worked up about. The size and shape of your breast are not responsible for the amount of milk produced.

Size is determined by the amount of fat. Big breast have high fat content while small ones have little fat content.

Shape is determined by the condition of ligaments inside them. Firm ligaments give firm breast while loose ligaments cause sagged breast, as seen in elderly.

But production of milk is by the hormones, glands and ducts which all female breast have, irrespective of the size. So once you put your baby to breast, the sucking action automatically triggers milk release and this has nothing to do with size and shape.
