Body Movement Terminology

Flexion - Bending
Extension - Stretching out
Protraction - Movement in the anterior direction
Retraction - Movement in the posterior direction
Abduction - Movement away from midline
Adduction - Movement toward the midline
Inversion - Turning inward
Exversion - Turning outward
Excursion - Movement from side to side
Rotation - Movement of the structure about its axis
Circumduction - Movement in a circular motion
Pronation - Rotation of the forearm so that the anterior surface is down
Supination - Rotation of the forearm so that the anterior surface is up
Elevation - Movement of the structure in a superior direction
Depression - Movement of the structure in a inferior direction

I loved all of your facts that you posted on the human body. It is important as nurses to know about the human body for many reasons. Our human body is a complex machine with many parts to it. When I studied the human body in anatomy and physiology course in my nursing school, I learned that the human body has so many different body systems and that each system works together so that the body can function properly. When one aspect of the human body is down or hurt, the other body parts take over and help it to heal which I find fascinating. I had to learn all of the bones and muscles as well and what each bone and muscle does for the human body. Learning all of these things helps us nurses to understand why the patient is sick or hurt and how to treat them.

The human body is such a complex machine and all of the parts work together in order to make it work well. I studied all of the bones and muscles and I was amazed at how they all work together. Here is some more information on the human body; this time it is regarding the heart:
