REDUCE YOUR INTAKE OF SALT
Unread post by Queenet »
We need salt to add flavour to food and to provide the body with sodium and chlorides for its proper
functioning. However a high intake of salt has negative effects on the body.
A spoonful of salt a day is too much. Too much salts increase your blood pressure.
HOW?
When there are low levels of salts in the body, your... kidneys hold on to water and prevent excessive realease of water (water retention).
On the other hand, when there are increased levels of salts, the kidneys work to flush out the excess
Salt out through urine and sweat. So your urine and sweat become saltier.
Read on.
However when salts become too much in the body, the kidneys are not able to flush them out and they accumulate in the body.
Water follows sodium. Hence the accumulated sodium attracts lots of water from the cells into the
blood plasma. This then puts pressure on the blood vessels. Over time this extra work causes the blood vessels to stiffen and weaken.
The end result is HYPERTENSION.

Avoid salty, fatty food. To save money, eat out at restaurants less and cook at home from scratch eating simple fresh foods. Also maintain a healthy weight. Obesity has been shown to increase the risk of heart attacks, heart failure and diabetes.

The prevalence of hypertension has jumped from 11 per cent in the 80s to 40 per cent in Nigeria.
High blood pressure is a silent killer and does not give any signs until the kidneys have been damaged.
How many people know the signs and symptoms of hypertension, diabetes or kidney diseases? By the time you start seeing blood in the urine, swollen stomach and face, the kidneys have failed.
Prevention and early detection should be our focus. People should endeavor to check their blood pressure levels regularly, if they have hypertension and manage it so that it does not develop into kidney failure, a situation that is irreversible.
A natural way to reduce one’s risk for high blood pressure is to reduce one’s salt intake.
We should all join in the creating health information awareness.

Usually! Low salt foods contain maximum 120mg of sodium/100g. Else on the other side, Moderate salt foods contain almost 120
to 500mg of sodium/100g which is responsible for the appearance of fat and orange peals on your skin called cellulite.

The amount of salt you eat has a direct effect on your blood pressure. Salt makes your body hold on to water.
