Student nurses shun lectures over poor condition of hostels

Unread post by Kareen »

Student of the Ondo State School of Nursing in Akure, yesterday said they would not resume lectures until Governor Olusegun Mimiko rehabilitates their hostels.
Our correspondent who visited the hostels said, the students refused to come out from their rooms, alleging that the state government has neglected their institution. They lamented that they have been living in congested rooms for the past six years.

The school principal, Mrs. Oyekanbi Fatile refused to speak to the press on the matter, saying there was peace in the school. But the students who took newsmen around their hostels, complained about their poor state.

A 200 level student (name withheld) said due to the terrible state of the hostels, some students sometimes pass the night in their classrooms.

“The hostels are dilapidated and this forced us to contribute money to re-paint them. It is sad that we are suffering despite the huge money we pay. For instance, fresh students pay N123, 000 while old students pay N24, 000.”

Our governor cannot be spending over N2billion on mega schools for primary pupils, when our hostels are in this condition,” the student said.
