NURSING IS A PROFESSION AND NOT A CALLING!
Heads (DNP) Nurses are consultants, professionals, and teachers.
HOW TO START A NURSING CAREER
There are two educational pathways to the nursing profession in Nigeria;
THE HOSPITAL-BASED ROUTE AND THE COLLEGE-BASED ROUTE.
THE UNIVERSITY-BASED PATHWAY is pursued through a university-only degree program lasting 5 years and awarding
BNSc (Bachelor of Science in Nursing),
Registered Nurse (RN),
Certificate of Registered Midwife (RM)
and Registered Public leads Health Nurse (RPHN).
THE UNIVERSITY-BASED NURSING PROGRAM is governed jointly by the NUC and the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN). THE HOSPITAL-BASED PATHWAY is pursued through a 3-year certificate program offered in schools and nursing schools in Nigeria. Completion of this program leads to the award of the Registered Nurse (RN) certificate, also known as the Basic Nursing Certificate (BNC).
Unlike primary nursing education, nursing schools and colleges are individually regulated by the NMCN.
